Job Summary:

Joliet Junior College is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Adjunct Instructor, Reference and Information Librarian to join our team. As a key member of our library staff, you will provide exceptional reference services to students, faculty, and community members, while also delivering information literacy instruction and supporting library services and projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver information literacy instruction online and in person, working closely with faculty to develop quality instruction and assessment of learning.
  • Provide in-depth reference services to students, faculty, staff, and community members, utilizing various technologies to facilitate access to information.
  • Effectively communicate with colleagues to ensure seamless delivery of library services.
  • Assist in the creation of reference or research support materials and services in response to curricular needs.
  • Maintain current awareness of professional practice and commit to ongoing career development activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in collection maintenance activities.
  • Comply with all legal and ethical obligations, including FERPA, ADA, and other regulatory legislations.
  • Commit to furthering the mission, goals, and core values of Joliet Junior College.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Expertise in appropriate technologies for reference and instruction.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with colleagues and community members.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the college's core values of respect and inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration, humor, and well-being, innovation, and quality.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in an academic library setting, including experience in special, school, and public libraries.
  • Experience in teaching online and/or using course management systems.
  • Experience in course development and assessment.
  • Strong commitment to supporting cultural competencies, diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education.
  • English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
  • Demonstrated multicultural competence.
