Job Title: Native American Spiritual Leader

Under the direction of the Community Resource Manager (CRM), the Native American Chaplain provides spiritual and moral guidance to State prison incarcerated persons; conducts spiritual ceremonies and sacred religious rituals and instructs interested incarcerated persons in the history, culture, and religious practices of Native Americans.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide spiritual guidance and support to Native American inmates
  • Conduct spiritual ceremonies and rituals
  • Instruct inmates in Native American history, culture, and religious practices
  • Collaborate with the Community Resource Manager to develop and implement programs and services for Native American inmates
Requirements:
  • Must be a Native American spiritual leader or have equivalent experience
  • Must have knowledge of Native American history, culture, and religious practices
  • Must be able to provide spiritual guidance and support to inmates
  • Must be able to conduct spiritual ceremonies and rituals
Working Conditions:

Travel may be required.

If you are meeting Minimum Qualifications with education, you must include your unofficial transcripts/diploma for verification. Official transcripts may be required upon appointment. If it is determined an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position. Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board.

Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
