Key Responsibilities:
As a Nuclear Medicine Technician, you will engage in the daily operations of the department, ensuring high-quality patient care and effective exam acquisition. Your duties will include:
- Conducting a comprehensive range of Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT examinations with a high degree of proficiency.
- Preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with established safety standards.
- Utilizing dose calibrators to accurately measure radiopharmaceuticals prior to patient administration.
- Participating in standby rotations for NM and PET/CT, including nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
- Performing radiation monitoring procedures, including area surveys and wipe tests, in compliance with departmental policies.
- Maintaining licensure and continuing education, submitting documentation to administration as required.
- Fostering professional relationships with colleagues, radiologists, nursing staff, and referring physicians.
- Ensuring cleanliness and proper stock levels in the exam room, notifying appropriate personnel when supplies are low.
- Processing images post-exam with accuracy and efficiency.
- Utilizing the computer system competently for exam charges and related tasks.
- Coordinating outpatient scheduling for Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT exams, ensuring all necessary information is collected.
- Transporting patients with care and professionalism.
- Providing instruction to new staff and students as needed.
- Starting IVs or obtaining venous access when required.
- Assisting in various radiology areas as necessary.
- Attending departmental meetings and adhering to all policies.
Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, candidates should possess:
- A degree from an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology program or equivalent training.
- A minimum of one year of experience as a technologist in a clinical setting is preferred.
- Current TDH/MRT Certification, ARRT and/or NMTCB Certification, and CPR certification. CT certification is highly recommended.
Skills and Competencies:
This role requires expertise in Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT procedures, along with experience in radioactive materials quality control.
Collaboration:
Interaction with various departments and personnel within the UMC/PNS Health system is essential, including close collaboration with the Heart Station, Radiology, Cath Lab, and SWCC.
Physical Requirements:
Candidates must be physically and emotionally fit, capable of frequent standing and lifting, and able to manage the demands of a high-stress environment. Near visual acuity is necessary.
Work Environment:
This position operates in an indoor environment, with regular handling of radioactive materials and a moderate to high risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
