Job Summary

The Retail Pharmacy Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the efficient and accurate distribution of medications in a retail pharmacy setting. This position requires a professional attitude, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepares, packages, and distributes medications prescribed by physicians
  • Processes insurance claims and maintains patient records
  • Maintains department facilities, equipment, and materials in a condition to promote efficiency, health, comfort, and safety of patients and staff
  • Checks equipment, supplies, inventory, and accessories on a regular basis per department protocol
  • Processes prescriptions, evaluates for quality, and accurate patient identification and side labeling
  • Greets patients, verifies patient identification, and physician orders
  • Addresses customer's questions and concerns and appropriately refers to the pharmacist
  • Assists customers in person and over the phone
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times
  • Assists in keeping pharmacy clean and organized
  • Performs other duties as assigned/necessary
Requirements
  • High School diploma or its equivalent certification
  • Graduate of accredited Pharmacy Technology Program
  • PTCB or NPTA license preferred or as required by state/contract
  • Minimum of one year relevant experience preferred
  • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable
  • Current CPR if applicable
  • TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray if applicable
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required
  • Computer proficiency required
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
