Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Freeway Management Engineer to join our team in the State of Florida Department of Transportation. As a key member of our Traffic Operations Office, you will be responsible for directing and supervising staff, providing advanced engineering and technical guidance, and ensuring the efficient operation of our freeway management system.

Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary for this position is $96,178.32 - $124,466.06 per year, with a highly competitive benefits package that includes health insurance, life insurance, dental and vision coverage, and a state retirement package.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and supervises staff and provides advanced engineering and technical guidance for the District Traffic Operations Office Freeway Management System (FMS) area.
  • Meets regularly with employees to assign work, establish work objectives and timelines, and evaluates employee performance throughout the year.
  • Plans, directs, organizes, tracks, and manages activities associated with the transportation systems management and operations (TSM&O) freeway master plan and plan updates.
  • Develops and recommends organizational changes to meet the growing needs of a complex urban transportation system.
  • Provides liaison with other governmental agencies and the public for coordination of FMS projects/programs in the region.
  • Serves as the District's project leader for the operations of manage lane projects, coordinating, directing, and guiding staff in various offices.
  • Organizes, tracks, and monitors the identification and use of appropriate, value-added performance measures to maximize the safety operation of the District's freeway infrastructure through TSM&O systems operations.

Requirements

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in accordance with Chapter 471, Florida Statutes, or ability to obtain registration by endorsement as a Professional Engineer in the State of Florida within six months from appointment date.
  • Knowledge of and skilled at traffic engineering/operation principles and analysis techniques.
  • Knowledge of TSM&O concepts, terminology, principles, and practice.
  • Knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
  • Knowledge of and skilled at using computers and current computer programs at an intermediate level.
  • Ability to effectively supervise others.
