Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Library Assistant to join our team at the City of Concord Public Library. As a Library Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional customer service to our patrons, assisting with daily library operations, and supporting the development of our collections.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide reference and reader's advisory services to patrons, assisting with the location of sources and the selection of materials.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of areas of the collection, including ordering new materials and removing worn or unused books.
  • Perform circulation functions, including checking out materials, registering new library patrons, and collecting and recording payment of fines.
  • Participate in program planning and production, including developing displays to promote library services.
  • Ensure the library is maintained in an orderly manner, including sorting returned materials for shelving and balancing monies collected.
  • Provide staff coverage at the branch library and process intra-branch and interlibrary loan requests.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Library Science or a related field, and one year of related experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patrons and library staff.
  • Ability to lift light and occasionally heavy objects, and to perform the duties of the position while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, or crouching.
