Job Description

Correctional Medical Management is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Nurse Practitioner to join our team at the Minnehaha County Jail. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide top-quality primary care and medical management to incarcerated patients.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement patient care plans in ambulatory health services
  • Examine and treat chronic and acute episodic illnesses, minor injuries, accidents, and other injuries/illnesses
  • Conduct patient evaluations, including taking the patient's history and performing physical examinations
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests
  • Write orders for medical medications and treatments, under guidelines of licensure
  • Perform invasive procedures as necessary
  • Recommend referrals to specialized care providers
  • Dictate discharge summaries and transfer orders
  • Communicate with outside providers and internal peers to ensure continuity of care
  • Maintain and follow patient care protocols
  • Work with members of the healthcare team in educating patients about their medical care
  • Continually update clinical knowledge and skills through consultation, formal and informal education, and review of literature
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and adherence to best practices
  • Assist in developing policies, protocols, standards, and guidelines
  • All other duties as assigned

Other Responsibilities

  • Complete required orientation as directed by facility
  • Follow facility and OSHA safety rules and procedures while on assignment
  • Uphold HIPAA regulations
  • Respect cultural and religious practices of patients
  • Punctual and dependable for assigned/confirmed shifts
  • Stay up to date on the latest medical advances and incorporate best practices into your work

Position Requirements

  • Must possess a Master's Degree and have current and valid Nurse Practitioner or Advanced Practice Nurse license with at least one year of experience providing direct patient care
  • Must have prescriptive authority
  • Previous experience in a correctional setting preferred
  • CPR certification
