Oncology Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our team at Smilow Waterford Cancer Center. As a key member of our oncology team, you will provide exceptional patient care and support to individuals undergoing treatment for various types of cancer.
Key Responsibilities- Assess and document patient health status, identifying health care needs and developing individualized care plans.
- Evaluate laboratory values, notify physicians of abnormalities, and assess medication continuance.
- Provide education and support to patients and families, emphasizing self-care measures to minimize side effects.
- Administer intravenous infusions and injections as ordered by physicians, assessing patients' therapy needs and inserting vascular access devices as necessary.
- Schedule pre- and post-treatment testing, communicating with patients about laboratory data, rescheduling, and coordinating follow-up care.
- Reassess patients and work with physicians to manage treatment-related side effects.
- Provide counseling and crisis intervention, collaborating with social work and pastoral care teams as needed.
- Coordinate discharge planning, including home health assistance, physical and occupational therapies, equipment, and hospice services.
- Seek professional growth and attend in-service education programs, serving as a preceptor to new staff and functioning as a charge nurse as assigned.
- Collect and maintain protocol information/data, ensuring research study protocols are applied and study patients are monitored and reported as required.
- Encourage multidisciplinary consultation, tumor conference, and health care team participation.
- Document health care provided accurately, ensuring accurate patient charges can be generated for services provided.
- Assess and identify relevant clinical or professional issues for research or performance improvement initiatives, assisting the health care team to keep programs up to date.
- Meet performance expectations for Customer Service, Teamwork, Resource Utilization, and Staff and Self Development.
We are seeking a Registered Nurse with a BSN degree, currently matriculating or with a minimum of three years of medical surgical/oncology experience. Relevant experience in an oncology setting is preferred, with infusion experience required. Outpatient ambulatory experience is also preferred. A current State of Connecticut Registered Nurse License is required, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. BLS certification is also required.
