Nursing Educator Position at MedStar Health

This is a nursing educator position at MedStar Health, responsible for teaching within the accelerated BSN nursing program of designated university affiliation. The successful candidate will be managing university/community educational affiliations that enhance performance, promote professional development or otherwise supports the mission and vision of the Department of Nursing (DON).
The job holder will be working closely with MedStar Washington Hospital Center (MWHC) and GW School of Nursing to offer Washington Squared (W2) program, an innovative collaboration that fosters continued advancement in health care.
The role will involve being on site at George Washington School of Nursing 3 days a week in Ashburn, VA and 2 days a week at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC.
The estimated salary range for this position is $85,000 - $110,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities
The key responsibilities of this position include:
- Developing academic courses/educational programs and achieving optimal educational outcomes.
- Identifying, coordinating and planning didactic and clinical education for student nurses as assigned by the university program coordinator and MWHC Program Director.
- Utilizing teaching techniques that promote critical thinking and evidence-based practice incorporating principles of adult learning theory.
- Planning and conducting interviews of applicants to university and MWHC tuition support program.
- Collaborating with MWHC nursing leadership to select applicants well suited for the MWHC work environment.
- Maintaining educational affiliations including affiliation screening, contract negotiations and renewal.
Requirements
To be successful in this position, you will need to have the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.
- Master's degree in Nursing, Health Care or Business Administration required.
- Doctoral degree in Nursing, Education, or Healthcare Administration preferred.
- 5-7 years of progressively more responsible job-related experience in nursing required.
- 1-2 years of teaching experience in a BSN program required.
- Experience in a nursing advance practice role (education, clinical or administrative) preferred.
- RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the District of Columbia required.
- Specialty certification in the specialty area from a nationally recognized nursing organization within 1 Year required.
- CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required.
