Job Summary

As a Front Load Driver with GFL Industries, you will be responsible for operating a front-end truck to collect and transport waste and recyclables to designated facilities. This role requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and a minimum of one year of commercial truck driving experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Drive commercial frontload or ancillary equipment along designated routes to collect solid waste and transport it to post-collection facilities.
  • Open container enclosures or gates to access cans and roll them into position for dumping.
  • Perform daily pre- and post-trip inspections and complete a vehicle condition report at the end of the shift.
  • Courteously interact with customers and the general public to answer questions and respond to requests.
  • Clean loose trash off the truck and surrounding area to maintain a clean customer site and ensure safety on roads and highways.
  • Maintain and submit a logbook, daily route/productivity sheet, and vehicle condition report as required by law or company policy.
  • Maneuver the truck into and out of minimum clearance spaces using mirrors to back up.
  • Use a key map and GPS to locate service addresses and follow safe operating practices to ensure proper truck operation.
  • Monitor operations to detect loose debris and visually scan customer sites before and after dumping.
  • Follow all safety standards, equipment checks, and precautions in the performance of all duties.
Requirements:
  • Possess a valid CDL.
  • Minimum of one year of commercial truck driving experience or a CDL school certificate.
  • Meet relevant criteria for safety-sensitive functions according to Company standards.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the truck and its components and basic maintenance requirements for safe operation.
  • Ability to control operations of equipment and maneuver the truck into and out of minimum clearance spaces.
  • Ability to recognize unacceptable waste and communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend associated documents and maps.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Flexibility to accept and adapt to change and a commitment to seeking continuous improvement.
  • Ability to exert muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 50 pounds repetitively using proper lifting techniques.
Mental Demands:
  • Ability to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, balance, and smell.
  • Visual Requirements: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to regularly lift/move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift/move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift/move up to 100 pounds.
