Job Summary

Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. is seeking an experienced Electrified Propulsion Systems Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Electrified Propulsion System Development department, you will be responsible for the development and testing of electrified propulsion components and systems for Hyundai, KIA, and Genesis products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the growth of the engineering group's capabilities for production vehicle and new technology development.
  • Understand the department's business model, strategic direction, purpose, and mission and perform necessary tasks.
  • Support the execution of the engineering group's goals and objectives through to successful completion.
  • Support inter-team collaborations and knowledge sharing through transparent communications.
  • Create and deliver engineering reports and presentations on short-term and long-term work activities.
  • Remain current with new technology and competitive products as a means to drive innovations.
  • Provide deep dive technical support for electrified propulsion system-related concerns for both pre-production and post-production issues.
  • Perform engineering activities related to:
    • Development or identification of new technologies, strategies, and methods for improving the fuel economy and performance of current and future Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis production hybrid and battery electric vehicles.
    • Test and evaluation of various electrified propulsion system components such as electric machines, and power electronics.
    • High voltage safety and failure prevention testing.
    • Feasibility analysis of new electrified system technologies through simulation, dyno testing, and on-road evaluations.
    • Introduction of selected electrified technologies to current or next-gen products through active communications with production programs in Korea R&D headquarters.
    • Research activities with external partners including national labs, universities, and suppliers.
    • Investigation of industry trends through benchmarking competitors' systems, application of information to development directions, and performance target setting.
    • Industry trend investigation, publication of technical papers, and reports internally/externally.
  • Travel both domestically and internationally (up to 15%).

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other related fields.
  • Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record.
  • Candidates applying for positions with Hyundai and KIA must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related fields.
  • Experience with e-Motor system, or thermal management system development including test equipment, test processes, and system design processes.
  • Experience with data acquisition and analysis tools such as ETAS/INCA and MATLAB/Simulink.
