Lead Wildlife Biologist

SWCA Environmental Consultants is excited to announce an opening for a Lead Wildlife Biologist within our New Mexico/Four Corners team. This position represents a significant opportunity for career advancement as part of SWCA's growing environmental services. It is a permanent, full-time role.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the project manager and technical authority on various natural resource and wildlife biology initiatives. You will oversee budgets, timelines, service quality, and ensure staff safety.
- Collaborate with the Corporate accounting team to assess invoices, expenses, and project audits.
- Guide, mentor, and provide technical support to junior biologists and field personnel.
- Conduct or lead numerous natural resource studies, including assessments for threatened and endangered species, environmental evaluations, and biological documentation.
- Organize, review, and transfer field data, and author/review technical reports and permit applications, providing expert review related to environmental regulations.
- Prepare reports and permit documents as the primary author and ensure quality assurance/quality control for various renewable energy projects.
- Work closely with project teams to fulfill biological resource management tasks.
- Proactively identify and resolve issues independently.
- Seek and pursue new business opportunities.
- Collaborate with SWCA's resource scientists and planners on environmental and cultural resource projects across the organization.
- Implement and uphold SWCA's safety protocols and standards of scientific integrity.
Qualifications for Success
- A Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in natural resource consulting.
- At least three years of project management experience in natural resources, including:
- Complex project management
- Client relationship management
- Business development and service expansion
- Scope and budget development
- Experience in diverse industries such as wind, solar, oil and gas, and transmission is preferred.
- Proven ability to manage federal and state environmental regulatory compliance, including developing applications and consulting on compliance strategies.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to pass a motor vehicle screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in supervising and mentoring other professionals.
- Professional certifications such as PMP and Certified Wildlife Biologist.
- Experience with permitting and compliance for utility and energy projects.
- Experience in project planning and impact mitigation strategy development.
