Job Description:

  • As an Operating Room Nurse, you will provide direct patient care using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.
  • You will perform plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care treatment.
  • Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition to the care team, physician, patient, and family.
  • Detect changes in patient status, report to appropriate healthcare team members, and utilize resources as dictated by acuity.
  • Assign priorities to patient problems with highest priority given to those that are most urgent and critical.
  • Assist patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
  • Evaluate learning needs of patients and families and provide patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Work as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of patients.
  • Exhibit high-level AORN standards.
  • Assist and anticipate surgeon's needs.
  • Monitor sterile field and report break in sterile technique.
  • Report and document any variances by filling out QCC reports accurately and completely.
  • Perform pre-op and post-op counts accurately and initiate corrective action when counts are incorrect.

Requirements:

  • Must be licensed in the State of Virginia or compact state as a Registered Nurse.
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Previous experience in acute care hospital setting preferred.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Verbal ability to present information and ideas related to nursing theory and practice.
  • Ability to accept responsibility and accountability to prescribe, delegate, and coordinate nursing care provided on assigned units as required with leadership qualities.
