Senior Underwriter Job Description

Crum & Forster is seeking a highly skilled Senior Underwriter to join our team in Seneca, New York. As a Senior Underwriter, you will be responsible for performing risk selection and pricing on new business, renewals, and endorsements, reviewing quotes prior to issuance, and making marketing calls to agents.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Underwrite primary property, general liability, umbrella, and other lines of business as needed.
  • Meet profitability, retention, and written premium goals determined by the branch.
  • Make independent decisions within underwriting letter of authority and maintain proper file documentation.
  • Manage assigned agents efficiently, including regular production visits, quarterly review of assigned brokers' profitability, and identification of potential broker conflicts and successes.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with agents and brokers to promote cross-selling and enterprise awareness.
  • Assist in developing annual business goals for assigned agents/producers and maintain accountability of agency partners within the branch.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments and participate in training and initiatives to develop knowledge base.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of P&C underwriting experience.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills to pursue new business, appoint new agents, and manage overall relationships.
  • Proficient in software needed to succeed.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Possesses, or is pursuing, underwriting and industry designations applicable to area of specialization.
  • Will abide by branch policies and procedures, including authority levels, to comply with Seneca's risk control procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge of commercial insurance products.
