Job Summary

UnaSource Surgery Center LLC is seeking a Certified Surgical First Assistant to provide aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions that help the surgeon carry out a safe surgical intervention with optimal results for the patient.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the surgeon in performing surgical procedures, including exposure, hemostasis, and closure.
  • Provide technical support during surgical procedures, including handling and cutting of tissue, suturing, and applying wound dressings.
  • Position patients and transfer them safely during surgical procedures.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all operating room procedures, including attire, infection control, and individual requirements and recommended practices of compliance.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and other team members during surgical procedures.
  • Stay up-to-date with new technology and its pertinence to patient management.
  • Participate in continuing medical education to maintain a quality standard of care.
Requirements
  • One year of experience as a Certified Surgical First Assistant.
  • Graduation from a surgical assisting program accredited through ARC/STSA, a collaborative effort of AST, ACS, and SASA, by CAAHEP.
  • Expertise in the theory and application of First Assisting in surgery.
  • Demonstrate competency with the application of sterile and aseptic technique.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
  • Oral communication skills required to communicate appropriately and effectively with the entire surgical team.
  • Written and computer skills are required for appropriate documentation.
  • Certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting preferred.
