Job Description

The Center for Family Life in Sunset Park Inc is a neighborhood-based social service agency offering a range of services to children and adults while contributing to community building. As an Employment Counselor, you will play a critical role in supporting refugees and asylees participants and their families in achieving economic and social self-sufficiency.

About You
  • Salary: $43,000 - $45,000 per year
  • Full-time position at 35 hours per week

To succeed in this role, you will need to be a highly motivated and organized individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will work closely with a diverse population, including newly arrived refugees and asylees, to identify and address their employment needs. This may involve conducting intake interviews, assessing employability, providing job readiness workshops, and assisting participants with online applications and job interviews.

Responsibilities
  1. Conducting intake interviews to assess applicants' eligibility for the program and complete an application for services and a Family Self-Sufficiency Plan
  2. Assessing employability and occupational directions through gathering background information and interviewing for interests, skills, and/or barriers to reaching employment goals
  3. Working with participants to complete resumes, cover letters, and provide job interview preparation
  4. Conducting job readiness workshops on various topics, including skills assessments, resume writing, interviewing skills, using technology for job search, and Worker's Rights
  5. Assisting participants with online applications, setting up interviews, and reviewing outcomes of interviews
  6. Maintaining ongoing communication with participants to provide supportive services, continuous assessment of needs, information about resources, and job orders with a potential match to the client's interests
  7. Collaborating with Job Developer to identify potential interview opportunities and advocating with prospective employers when needed
  8. Providing retention services to participants for a minimum of one-year post-placement, facilitating second and third job placements as needed
  9. Maintaining accurate case records and completing all paperwork in a timely manner
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or some college with relevant experience preferred
  • Bilingual English/Spanish and/or French required
  • Ability and desire to work with a diverse population, including newly arrived refugees and asylees
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Experience with employment counseling, case management, and group work highly desired
  • Superior organizational, interpersonal, time management, and communication skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
