Position Overview

The Pediatric Practice Nurses at Lancaster General Health are dedicated to delivering primary healthcare exclusively for children from infancy through adolescence. Our team plays a vital role in the outpatient healthcare framework, ensuring a comprehensive and integrated approach to patient management through a family-centered model. We collaborate closely with our healthcare providers and clinical support teams to enhance the quality of care delivered to our young patients.

Our responsibilities include gathering essential medical histories, monitoring vital signs, reviewing medication lists, offering clinical guidance through established protocols, and providing continuous education on healthy lifestyles. As a Pediatric Practice Nurse, we engage in regular team meetings and are encouraged to contribute innovative ideas that can shape clinical practices within our department and the broader healthcare system.

Key Responsibilities

LOCATION: Lancaster, PA & Lititz, PA

HOURS: Full-time 1.0 FTE (40 hours/week); varying shifts; Monday - Friday; general office hours; rotating weekends

Core Duties:

  • Prepare patients for appointments by adhering to established rooming standards.
  • Review and process patient prescription refill requests.
  • Administer medications and injections as directed by healthcare providers, following departmental protocols and regulatory standards.
  • Provide ongoing patient education regarding preventive care, chronic disease management, medication administration, and follow-up care.
  • Assist healthcare providers with various office-based procedures and treatments.
  • Conduct Point of Care Testing, including screenings for vision, hearing, and various rapid tests.
  • Monitor and track patient tests and overdue laboratory orders.
  • Assess wounds and perform suture/staple removals as necessary.
  • Ensure exam rooms are well-stocked and sanitized after each patient visit.
  • Maintain and clean medical instruments and equipment post-procedure.
  • Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient experience and care quality.
  • Advocate for patients and foster positive interactions with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Handle patient information confidentially in accordance with privacy policies.
  • Provide clinical advice via phone and electronic communication based on triage protocols and nursing judgment.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Perform various administrative tasks as needed.
  • Occasional regional travel may be required; a valid driver's license is necessary.
  • Participate in on-call duties as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) License from the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
  • Current CPR/BLS Certification from the American Heart Association.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One to two years of nursing experience in an outpatient primary or specialty care setting is preferred.
