Position Overview: Early Childhood Educator

The Early Childhood Educator will report directly to the Principal of the Elementary School. This role involves designing, preparing, and delivering engaging and culturally responsive lessons that captivate and motivate young learners, fostering a dynamic and challenging educational atmosphere. The educator will evaluate, monitor, and provide timely feedback regarding student progress and developmental needs to students, families, and colleagues. Building strong connections between home, school, and the community is essential. This position requires a high level of creativity, cultural sensitivity, and effective problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Differentiate and tailor instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles, recognizing and valuing students' cultural and educational backgrounds;
  • Select and organize culturally relevant materials and methods suited to the subject matter and the diverse audience;
  • Design, implement, and assess a variety of authentic formative and summative evaluations as necessary;
  • Guide students through culturally responsive practices, offering academic advice, counseling, and educational support, including personalized learning plans;
  • Create and develop culturally relevant resources, contribute to curriculum planning, and engage in additional academic projects as assigned;
  • Utilize classroom spaces and tools to showcase student work and experiences;
  • Maintain student records to share with classroom teachers, school leaders, and families;
  • Develop a range of interventions and activities aimed at addressing students' academic, social, emotional, and physical needs, with a system for tracking progress;
  • Facilitate small group instruction to provide opportunities for pre-teaching, re-teaching, and targeted support for skill development;
  • Establish and communicate clear learning objectives for all educational activities;
  • Engage students actively in the learning process to foster a sense of academic identity and success;
  • Maintain open communication with a growth mindset among students and adults;
  • Build partnerships with parents to create a shared vision for student achievement;
  • Provide constructive feedback to enhance student learning;
  • Monitor student behavior and seek appropriate support when necessary;
  • Create a positive and supportive learning environment;
  • Effectively manage student behavior;
  • Reflect on and adapt instructional practices based on analysis.

Qualifications:

  • Must hold certification in New York State.
  • Bachelor's degree required (Master's degree preferred).
