Position Summary and Qualifications

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care by executing a range of delegated basic nursing services.

In collaboration with registered nurses and other healthcare professionals, the LPN provides tailored, comprehensive, and compassionate care that aligns with departmental needs and adheres to state and specialty practice standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collect and document initial and ongoing patient information throughout their care journey.
  • Deliver direct, evidence-based nursing care as directed by physicians or registered nurses.
  • Assist with procedures, monitoring, and other tasks as required.
  • Perform lab and procedural tests within the LPN scope of practice after demonstrating proficiency.
  • Insert and maintain IVs following required training and competency assessments.
  • Administer prescribed medications in accordance with hospital protocols, monitoring patients for therapeutic responses and addressing any adverse reactions.
  • Identify potential nursing issues or changes in patient status, communicating with the appropriate team members.
  • Reinforce patient and family education tailored to individual needs.
  • Document care administration accurately and promptly in patient medical records.
  • Ensure patient privacy and security of protected health information.
  • Facilitate smooth patient transitions in and out of the department.
  • Provide detailed patient information reports to ensure continuity of care.
  • Act as a resource for department staff, students, and volunteers, fostering teamwork to ensure quality patient care.
  • Prioritize patient safety at all times.
  • Assist in managing the daily schedule of cases.
  • Contribute to nursing assessments by collecting and recording objective and subjective data accurately and promptly.
  • Participate in care planning and evaluation in collaboration with registered nurses.
Qualifications:
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
  • Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license.
