We are in search of a skilled Estimator to enhance our operations in San Leandro, CA. The Estimator will be pivotal in crafting comprehensive estimates and proposals for a variety of projects, typically valued between $100,000 and $3,000,000 for miscellaneous metals, and from $500,000 to $10,000,000 for structural steel.

**This role necessitates physical presence in our San Leandro office - remote work is not an option.**

To excel in this position, candidates must effectively manage essential responsibilities. This overview serves as a summary and is not an exhaustive list of all duties and skills required.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Thoroughly review all bidding documents, drawings, and specifications to understand the project scope before initiating the estimate.
  2. Prepare a detailed scope letter and distribute it to general contractors ahead of the bid deadline.
  3. Calculate all material, labor, and equipment costs utilizing Fabtrol, Excel, and company-specific estimating protocols.
  4. Engage with general contractors/customers to confirm scope details as needed prior to bidding.
  5. Efficiently manage time to ensure bids are completed well in advance for thorough review.
  6. Collaborate with the Chief Estimator or President to review bids before submission, ensuring alignment with production capabilities.
  7. Submit bid pricing to general contractors/customers before the bid closing time.
  8. Conduct follow-ups with all general contractors/customers after bid submission.
  9. Build and maintain relationships with key vendors, general contractors, and subcontractors.
  10. Prepare project turnover documentation and discuss successful bids with assigned project managers.
  11. Evaluate and price change order requests or revisions that exceed a reasonable workload value.

Educational Background

Minimum requirement: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Qualifications and Skills

Proven experience in the construction field, particularly in estimating and bidding, is essential. Strong organizational, written and verbal communication, and time-management skills are crucial. Candidates must possess the ability to communicate effectively with general contractors and customers, along with strong mathematical and analytical skills.
