The Animal Emergency & Referral Associates is seeking a passionate and skilled Certified Veterinary Technician to enhance our Overnight Emergency team.

Work Schedule:
Overnight shifts with flexible daytime availability.

Position Summary:
The primary role of the Veterinary Nurse is to provide essential support to the Emergency Room veterinarians during treatments and procedures, ensuring optimal care for our patients. Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and care are crucial. Effective communication with team members is essential for ensuring overall accuracy and satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver care to incoming emergencies and hospitalized patients, addressing all needs, including:
    • Triage and patient assessment, obtaining vital signs, IVC placement, phlebotomy, intubations, administering injections, radiology, laboratory work, and basic anesthesia support.
    • Administer basic first aid as required.
    • Monitor and provide treatment for critical and intensive care patients.
    • Stabilize incoming emergencies by managing temperature, blood pressure, and fluid resuscitation.
    • Accurately document and communicate patient information in medical records.
    • Effectively relay patient status and changes to the attending veterinarian.
    • Maintain a clean and comfortable environment for all patients.
    • Set up and manage equipment, demonstrating knowledge of monitoring and diagnostic tools.
    • Safely restrain patients as needed.
    • Record medical histories and data with precision.
    • Prepare and administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians.
    • Collect, prepare, label, and test laboratory specimens as necessary.
    • Assist with patient euthanasia and manage aftercare of remains with compassion.
    • Provide basic client education on nutrition, home care, zoonotic diseases, medication administration, and post-operative care as directed.
    • Restock and maintain cleanliness in ICU, treatment areas, exam rooms, laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, and isolation.
    • Train less experienced staff on policies, procedures, and technical skills.
    • Cross-train to assist in various hospital areas as needed.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a veterinary setting.
  • Ability to perform all key responsibilities of a Veterinary Technician Assistant.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and sanitation practices.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and equipment.
  • Proficient in calculating dosages and administering injections.
  • Understanding of CPR and rescue breathing techniques.
  • Ability to follow directions and work under varying circumstances.
  • Proactive in anticipating the needs of veterinarians and nursing staff.
  • Capable of responding swiftly and appropriately in emergencies while maintaining composure.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good personal grooming and hygiene practices.
  • Team-oriented mindset with a focus on fostering a positive workplace culture.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Physical ability to kneel, bend, and lift animals weighing up to 50 lbs.

Educational Background:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree and/or Technician Certification preferred.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Compensation based on experience and skill level, starting at $25/hour for Credentialed Technicians, with experienced Credentialed Technicians earning $28-$32/hour.
