Role of Mechanical Assembly Technician:
This position plays a crucial role within the AWS production team. The primary responsibilities include interpreting schematics, assembly drawings, and work instructions to effectively complete the wiring on control panels.
Key Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate proficiency in reading, interpreting, and adhering to assembly drawings, diagrams, and schematics to identify component parts and assembly sequences.
- Exhibit excellent attention to detail while performing a variety of electronic or electromechanical assembly tasks on assemblies or sub-assemblies, which may involve varying positions from sitting to standing, and handling components of light to medium weight.
- Adhere to all quality, environmental, health, and safety specifications.
- Prepare all surfaces and components to prevent damage during assembly and testing.
- Show proven ability to utilize hand and power tools for assembling units according to product specifications.
- Possess strong mechanical aptitude for tool usage in production operations.
- Demonstrate basic problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
- Exhibit the ability to perform assembly tasks using connection lists and schematics.
- Knowledge of cable drainage/service loops and identification of damaged wire/hardware.
- Position, align, and adjust parts for optimal fit and assembly.
- Inspect components for imperfections and conduct testing and adjustments on completed units.
- Identify and report any faulty components or hazards during the assembly process.
- Conduct setups and adjustments while maintaining tolerances to blueprint specifications.
- Perform point-to-point wiring per work instructions, diagram schematics, and conduct short/continuity tests, Hipot tests, and functionality tests on assembled parts.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, climb ladders, bend, grasp, sit, pull, push, stoop, and stretch.
- Assist fellow assemblers in assembly tasks and may support electrical work as needed.
- Undertake additional duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in a switchgear manufacturing environment.
- Proficient in Google Suite, MS Office, or equivalent software.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and follow work instructions and procedures.
- Consistently adhere to safety regulations.
- Capable of lifting up to 60 lbs on an occasional basis.
- Willingness to work overtime as required based on business needs.
