Job Title: Permit and License Specialist

Job Summary:

The City of St. Peters is seeking a highly skilled Permit and License Specialist to join our team. This role involves performing advanced clerical tasks, reviewing and processing permits and licenses, providing excellent customer service, and handling basic accounting duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily administration of backflow prevention device certification for residential, commercial, and industrial water services, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and city regulations.
  • Act as a liaison between City departments, regulatory agencies, and customers regarding compliance with backflow prevention device certifications.
  • Recommend and assist in issuing notices of violation.
  • Manage and maintain a working database, track projects, expenditures, and handle data entry and verification (i.e., invoices, check requests).
  • Perform basic accounting tasks and advanced clerical duties related to permit and license processing.
  • Process permit and license applications, maintain appropriate records, and support general business office operations.
  • Research and assist in implementing procedures for compliance with State and County permit and license requirements.
  • Prepare and analyze reports, manage files, order supplies, and maintain inventory.

Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or lawfully authorized alien worker.
  • High School graduate or GED certificate and a minimum of three (3) years of applicable office experience.
  • Commissioned as a Notary Public or obtain within three (3) months of employment.
  • Missouri Department of Natural Resources Backflow Prevention Device Tester Certification or attend training course within six (6) months of employment.
  • Must be able to type 40 cwpm.
  • Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database software computer application programs.
