Job Overview

Magnet Medical is seeking a skilled Cath Lab Technologist to join our team in Anchorage, Alaska.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Pre-Procedure Preparation
  1. Ensure all necessary equipment and tools are sterile, functional, and properly set up for procedures.
  2. Verify patient information before the procedure begins, including medical history, allergies, and consent forms.
  3. Assist in preparing patients for procedures, including setting up monitoring equipment and ensuring proper positioning.
  4. Provide patient education and reassurance before procedures, explaining what will happen and answering questions.
Assisting with Procedures
  1. Assist cardiologists and other physicians during cardiac catheterization, angioplasty, stent placement, electrophysiological studies, and other interventional procedures.
  2. Handle sterile instruments, such as catheters, balloons, and stents, during procedures, ensuring correct placement and maintaining a sterile field.
  3. Operate X-ray fluoroscopy equipment and assist with imaging during diagnostic tests, such as angiograms, to visualize blood vessels and heart function.
  4. Monitor vital signs during procedures and report any abnormalities to the physician.
  5. Administer medications under physician direction, such as sedatives or contrast dyes, ensuring patient safety throughout procedures.
Post-Procedure Care
  1. Monitor patients for immediate complications after procedures, such as bleeding, changes in vital signs, or signs of infection.
  2. Assist in transferring patients from procedure tables to recovery, ensuring comfort and safety during transport.
  3. Help with patient recovery by monitoring cardiac rhythm, vital signs, and the insertion site for any signs of complications.
  4. Provide post-procedure instructions to patients and their families, including advice on post-operative care, activity restrictions, and follow-up appointments.
Equipment Management and Maintenance
  1. Maintain, clean, and sterilize cath lab equipment and instruments, ensuring they are functioning properly and ready for procedures.
  2. Regularly check and troubleshoot cath lab machinery, including X-ray equipment, electrocardiograms (EKG), defibrillators, and patient monitors.
  3. Order necessary supplies, manage inventory, and ensure all materials needed for procedures are available and in good condition.
  4. Assist in calibrating equipment to ensure accurate diagnostic results.
Patient Monitoring and Safety
  1. Continuously monitor patients' vital signs during procedures, ensuring optimal conditions for interventions.
  2. Ensure proper documentation of patient information, procedures, and outcomes in electronic health records or procedure logs.
  3. Adhere to safety and infection control protocols, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE), sterile techniques, and radiation safety protocols.
  4. Monitor the catheter insertion site for signs of complications such as infection or clot formation.
Collaboration with Medical Team
  1. Work closely with cardiologists, radiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality care for patients undergoing catheterization or other cardiac procedures.
  2. Attend pre-procedure meetings to review patient conditions and provide input on procedures.
  3. Assist in evaluating the results of diagnostic tests, such as angiograms, to support treatment plans.
Education and Training
  1. Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in cardiac catheterization techniques, equipment, and best practices.
  2. Participate in ongoing education, certification programs, and training in areas such as radiation safety, advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS), and other relevant certifications.
  3. Educate patients about their conditions, procedures they are undergoing, and the importance of follow-up care.
  4. Assist in training and mentoring new staff or students in the cath lab environment.
Quality Control and Compliance
  1. Adhere to regulatory guidelines, including HIPAA for patient privacy, OSHA safety standards, and Joint Commission requirements.
  2. Ensure that all procedures and documentation meet hospital policies, accreditation standards, and industry regulations.
  3. Participate in regular performance audits to ensure quality and safety of procedures, equipment, and patient care.
Salary and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range based on 10 hour shifts and 40 hours per week, with tax-free stipend amount to be determined. Additional benefits include $104,000 - $124,000 annual salary, depending on experience.
