ChristianaCare is actively seeking a Registered Nurse II to enhance our Post Anesthesia Care Surgical Observation Unit. The selected candidate will undergo training in various areas including Prep and Holding, PACU Phase II, and Surgical Observation. Responsibilities will include managing adult patients who are under observation or awaiting inpatient admission after surgical procedures. This role may involve caring for patients requiring advanced monitoring such as centralized cardiac and pulse oximetry.

Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct and document thorough clinical assessments of patients upon admission and throughout their hospital stay in accordance with established protocols.
- Evaluate the need for referrals related to discharge planning.
- Identify actual and potential risks affecting patient safety.
- Develop, implement, and adjust a nursing care plan based on patient assessments and diagnoses.
- Monitor and document patient responses to interventions.
- Tailor educational approaches to meet the unique learning needs of patients and their families, revising plans as necessary.
- Encourage active participation from patients and families in the discharge process and informed decision-making.
- Ensure safe and effective medication management.
- Respond appropriately to patient crises as per unit-specific standards.
- Engage in team meetings and interdisciplinary discussions regarding patient care, ensuring accurate hand-offs that include patient and family input.
- Demonstrate expertise in delivering care to patients aged 16 and older, with a solid understanding of their developmental needs.
- Maintain a robust knowledge base of nursing care specific to the patient population and mentor others in clinical practices.
- Utilize effective communication skills with patients, families, colleagues, management, and other healthcare professionals.
- Delegate tasks to nursing staff based on their capabilities and scope of practice.
- Foster a collaborative team environment by valuing contributions from all members.
- Commit to ongoing professional development by staying updated on clinical practices and participating in relevant committees and task forces.
- Advocate for patients when they are unable to represent themselves.
- Seek resources to navigate and implement ethical decision-making.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required or commitment to obtain within three years of hire.
- Current RN licensure in the State of Delaware.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certifications required within six months of hire.
The successful candidate may qualify for a sign-on bonus, payable over a 12-month period.
