Position Overview
The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is seeking distinguished board-certified or eligible anesthesiologists specializing in critical care to enhance our prestigious Department of Anesthesiology. The increasing clinical demand at our medical center has opened avenues for additional general and subspecialty anesthesiologists who are passionate about education and research. Positions are available at various academic ranks, including Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor.
Role and Responsibilities
Faculty members in the critical care division are anesthesiology-trained intensivists responsible for managing complex, critically ill patients across three specialized intensive care units. The Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) at University Hospital serves a varied patient demographic, including trauma, surgical, liver transplant, and burn cases. The James Cancer Hospital SICU caters to critically ill cancer patients requiring surgical intervention for cancer or related complications. Since 2010, our team has also overseen the 30-bed Cardiovascular Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CVICU), focusing on high-volume ECLS/ECMO and advanced cardiopulmonary failure treatments, including left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) and heart/lung transplants.

Department Overview
The Department of Anesthesiology comprises 128 physicians, 103 CRNA/CAA professionals, 10 clinician scientists, 80 residents, and 9 fellows, supported by a dedicated team of anesthesia technicians and administrative staff. With six academic divisions, including Critical Care, Pain, Cardiothoracic, OB, Ambulatory, and General Anesthesia, the department provides comprehensive anesthesia services across the health system.
Educational Commitment
Our department is deeply committed to education and training, offering several ACGME-accredited fellowships in various anesthesiology specialties. The Division of Critical Care Medicine consists of 15 faculty members dedicated to delivering patient-centered, evidence-based care. Our faculty is actively involved in administrative and quality initiatives, ensuring a robust educational experience for medical students, residents, and fellows.
Qualifications
- MD or DO degree
- Completion of an accredited Anesthesiology Residency Program
- Fellowship training in Critical Care Medicine
- Current board certification in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine
- Eligibility for an Ohio Medical License
H-1B sponsorship is available for qualified candidates. J-1 waiver sponsorship is not available.
