About the JobWe are seeking a highly motivated Crisis Advocate to join our team at Angeline's Day Center for Homeless Women. As a Crisis Advocate, you will play a critical role in providing supportive services that help participants identify their strengths, assess their needs, and develop action plans to encourage stabilization.
Job Responsibilities- Provide a welcoming and safe environment by building trust and professional rapport with clients.
- Staff the front desk to welcome women into the space, monitor cameras, and respond to callers and visitors.
- Offer support and encouragement to clients transitioning out of homelessness.
- Assist in navigating the social service system, obtaining personal identification, applying for public assistance benefits, enrolling in Medicaid Benefits, and connecting clients to Employment Specialists at WorkSource.
- Assist with housing applications, advocate by connecting with landlords, and assist in housing search.
- Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation as needed, as well as model positive behavior.
- Coordinate group activities and community meetings with clients.
- Read relevant documents to stay current with internal events, policies, and procedures.
- Monitor outside activity and ensure sidewalks are safe and clear.
- Participate in staff meetings and trainings as directed, and collaborate with Housing Support Specialist and Rapid Rehousing Case Manager.
- At least two years of direct social service experience, preferably in a shelter setting or working with homeless populations.
- Ability to work effectively and empathetically with clients who have mental health and chemical-related issues.
- Must be able to respond in an emergency situation and follow correct emergency and safety procedures.
- Ability to engage with clients in a client-centered approach and build professional rapport.
- Commitment to diversity, including sensitivity to the needs of clients, staff, and volunteers from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills, with ability to maintain accurate and complete records.
- Ability to work independently, be proactive, solve problems, and take initiative, as well as work in a team environment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and basic level of computer skills, including use of database, word processing, and spreadsheet software.
