Columbia University is seeking a highly skilled MRI Technologist to join our team. As a key member of our radiology department, you will be responsible for performing a wide range of technical procedures utilizing magnetic resonance imaging and other modalities to obtain high-quality images of designated portions of the body.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure patient safety by screening for medical conditions, allergy history, and foreign objects such as metal implants, pacemakers, aneurysm clips, hearing aids, and shrapnel.
- Confirm the appropriateness of the exam by reviewing the referral form and radiologist protocol and patient questionnaire, and bring any discrepancies to the attention of the radiologist.
- Ensure patient and equipment safety by following the MRI safety policy and procedure.
- Perform scans following standardized protocols, tailoring as needed due to patient variables such as body habitus.
- Maintain and retrieve patient data by appropriate use of PACS and other information systems, and generate hard copies when necessary.
- Maintain log books and machine performance data.
- Assist in the administering of first aid as needed.
- Display courtesy and respect to all patients, medical staff, visitors, and co-workers.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the work area and equipment.
- Assist in expediting patient flow while maintaining quality.
- Competent to care for patients based upon the age groups treated.
- Competent to administer contrast media via appropriate peripheral IV access as ordered and directed by qualified physician staff while abiding by NY state guidelines (if appropriately certified).
- Participate along with nursing in monitoring patients pre, during, and post contrast administration for possible allergic reaction to contrast media.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Two years of MRI experience or successful completion of Hospital-sponsored training program.
- New York State Licensed X-Ray Technologist by the Department of Health.
- Registered X-Ray Technologist by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- ARRT/MRI certification.
- New York State license to inject contrast.
- Experience with Radiology Information Systems, PACS, Data processing, and digital data transfer process.
