This role supports the mission of the Y, a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. As a Lifeguard, you will create a safe and positive environment that welcomes and respects all individuals, promoting safety in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

1. Maintain active surveillance of the pool area, ensuring the well-being of all patrons.
2. Know and review emergency procedures, responding promptly and professionally to emergency situations.
3. Enforce pool rules and regulations, notifying staff of any inappropriate behavior.
4. Apply safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatics area, maintaining accurate records as required.
5. Perform equipment checks, ensuring necessary equipment is available, and assist with facility maintenance.
6. Identify and celebrate the successes of members and program participants.
7. Participate in department and branch meetings, staying informed and engaged.

• Must be at least 15 years of age.
• Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
• Current YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent certification and BLS, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration.
• Ability to work independently with attention to detail and relate effectively to diverse groups of people.
• Successful clearance of background check.

This role is situated in a recreational environment, with regular exposure to water and the need to remain alert and focused. The physical demands include standing, walking, reaching, and remaining alert with no lapses of consciousness.
