Role Overview:

As an Automation Specialist, you will leverage your expertise in liquid handling robotics and integration with complementary instrumentation. The ideal candidate will showcase innovative strategies for designing, optimizing, and executing Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) or cell- and organoid-based workflows on automated robotic systems. This role emphasizes a growth mindset and the development of proficiency in emerging automation technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Integrate Liquid Handling Robotics: Effectively incorporate liquid handling robotics with supporting instrumentation to facilitate molecular and cellular biology workflows.
  • Automate Standardized Assays: Validate and implement automated workflows for various standardized assays, including DNA/RNA purification and NGS library preparation.
  • Collaborate on Benchtop Processes: Partner with scientists to convert benchtop processes into fully automated workflows, involving programming and rigorous validation.
  • Design User-Centric Processes: Develop and validate comprehensive processes on integrated lab automation platforms, focusing on user-friendly design and secure data management.
  • Troubleshoot and Optimize: Conduct advanced troubleshooting alongside scientists to enhance process efficiency and scientific integrity.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with diverse teams to integrate NGS and organoid workflows into automated systems, ensuring project success.
  • Technical Support: Address technical issues related to automation and NGS workflows.
  • User Training: Educate end-users on automated platform operation and workflow execution.
  • Stay Updated on Technology: Keep abreast of advancements in automation technology relevant to liquid handling systems.
  • Independent Workflow Development: Independently create novel automated workflows.
  • Meticulous Record Keeping: Maintain detailed records of all experiments conducted.
  • Collaboration and Organization: Collaborate with multiple teams, sharing methodologies and harmonizing experimentation efforts.
  • Lab Management: Oversee lab organization and equipment maintenance.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree with 1+ years or Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of experience in bioengineering or biology, emphasizing automation platforms.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with liquid handling platforms for high-throughput screening and NGS workflows.
  • Direct experience with laboratory operations and maintenance of automation instruments.
  • Strong understanding of molecular and cellular biology, including practical application of NGS assays.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain operational protocols for lab automation systems.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Functional knowledge of at least one high-level programming language, with additional languages as a plus.
  • Experience with Beckman-Coulter and/or Dynamic Devices liquid handling platforms.

Preferred Skills:

  • Extensive experience with high-throughput methods and laboratory automation.
  • Proficiency in integrating liquid handling systems with supporting instrumentation.
  • In-depth knowledge of end-to-end NGS workflows.
  • Functional understanding of cellular and molecular biology.
  • Proficiency in NGS protocols and automation programming.
  • Experience in organoid culture and assay development is advantageous.
