Position Overview

NORTH SUFFOLK COMMUNITY SERVICES INC is seeking a dedicated Entry-Level Maintenance Technician / Apprentice to enhance our Facilities team. This role is essential for the effective organization and execution of various maintenance and repair tasks as directed by the Facilities and Maintenance Director. The technician will also participate in an emergency on-call rotation and may require off-site travel.


Compensation: This position offers a competitive pay rate of $20-22/hr, along with paid on-call duties, including reimbursement for phone and mileage expenses.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess project requirements and formulate job plans for the Director's review.
  • Provide material, labor, and cost estimates for job completion to the Director.
  • Complete all necessary documentation, including work orders and purchase orders, ensuring accurate job records.
  • Timely submission of equipment damage, loss, and accident reports.
  • Return surplus materials and equipment to the maintenance department.
  • Perform repair tasks utilizing the latest technology while adhering to local and state regulations.
  • Carry an emergency beeper and coordinate with vendors during emergencies, ensuring proper follow-up until resolution.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • High School diploma or GED equivalent is required.
    • Attendance at a trade school or possession of a relevant certificate is preferred.
  • Experience:
    • At least 6 months to 1 year of experience in property management and facilities maintenance is required.
  • Skills:
    • Familiarity with basic construction and maintenance procedures, including knowledge of material properties, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry basics.
    • Understanding of spill cleanup protocols, first-aid, and CPR.
    • A valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle are mandatory.
