As a Cement Mason, you will be responsible for executing skilled tasks related to the installation and finishing of concrete surfaces on various properties.
Key Responsibilities:
Your role may encompass, but is not limited to, the following duties:
- Planning and organizing work for new projects or repairs by accurately measuring and determining the necessary materials and tools, while maintaining a clean work environment.
- Preparing job sites by establishing safety measures and scaffolding; may receive training for managing 'confined space' environments.
- Removing old or damaged concrete using pneumatic tools and other equipment.
- Utilizing various tools such as trowels, floats, saws, and edgers to achieve high-quality finishes.
- Potentially operating epoxy injection machinery after receiving appropriate training.
- Setting up forms and screeds for concrete applications and using levels to ensure proper elevation.
- Pouring and finishing concrete for sidewalks, curbs, and ramps, employing various finishing techniques.
- Mixing and applying surface treatments, colors, and waterproofing materials as per project specifications.
- Ensuring completed work areas are properly secured and marked for safety.
- Documenting daily work activities, including job locations and descriptions of completed tasks.
- Driving departmental vehicles to transport materials to work sites.
- Communicating effectively with team members and supervisors using radios and mobile devices regarding work progress and safety alerts.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:

Education:
Completion of an Apprenticeship recognized by the California Division of Apprenticeship Standards, including the City's program in class 7398 or 7399, or a similar program recognized by the Department of Labor.
Experience:
A minimum of 4,160 hours of documented experience as a journey-level cement mason, or at least 10,400 hours of relevant work experience.
Licenses and Certifications:
Must possess a valid Class C California driver's license.
Condition of Employment:
Applicants must hold a valid California driver's license without restrictions that would hinder the performance of job duties.
Desirable Qualifications:
These qualifications may be used to identify candidates for interviews or final selection.
- At least one year of experience in form setting.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to climb, crawl, lift up to 90 pounds, and maintain physical stamina for extended periods.
Working Environment:
Work may involve exposure to varying weather conditions and hazardous materials.
