Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct technical analyses and maintain essential street signage.

  • Oversee the geometric design elements of the city's extensive roadway network.

Role Expectations

As an Assistant Civil Engineer within the Design & Construction (D&C) unit, you will contribute to the creation of safer streets by enhancing bicycle and transit networks, as well as pedestrian facilities. Your work will directly support major transportation initiatives aimed at reducing accidents and improving public safety.

Responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and refining capital transportation projects.
  • Collaborating with project managers to finalize designs for rapid Street Improvement Projects (SIPs).
  • Improving existing street plans and addressing unique design requests.
  • Utilizing AutoCAD for the development of official marking and concrete drawings.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates should possess a valid New York State driver's license and familiarity with AutoCAD, as well as knowledge of AASHTO, MUTCD, and NYC Street Design Manual guidelines. An understanding of innovative street design techniques that enhance safety and mobility for all users is highly desirable.
