Department: Kitchen, Pastry Team
Classification: FLSA Non-Exempt, Hourly Employee
Key Responsibilities:
The Pastry Cook will be tasked with the creation of a diverse array of baked goods including scones, cakes, cookies, pies, and breads, utilizing both traditional and contemporary recipes.
- Arrive on time for shifts and utilize the time clock for accurate attendance. Manage your time effectively, including rest and meal breaks in accordance with labor laws.
- Adhere to recipes and guidelines as specified.
- Prepare all pastry items and breads as required.
- Follow portion control and presentation standards as directed by the Chef.
- Collaborate with culinary team members to innovate seasonal desserts.
- Restock supplies as necessary throughout the shift.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the workstation, practicing good safety and sanitation protocols.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the use and maintenance of all kitchen equipment.
- Assist with additional kitchen tasks as assigned by the Chef to meet departmental needs.
- Commit to delivering quality service and perform other duties as required by management.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Flexible work schedule.
- 1 to 2 years of relevant experience.
- Ability to comprehend and follow both written and verbal instructions.
- Basic knowledge of professional cooking techniques and knife skills.
- Capability to take direction and work collaboratively within a team.
- Ability to maintain composure and efficiency under pressure.
- Strong problem-solving skills, self-motivation, and organizational abilities.
- Prior experience in baking or pastry preparation.
- Understanding of fundamental cooking skills, knife handling, and safety practices.
- Willingness to learn and adapt.
Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes:
- Proficient in the use of all relevant kitchen equipment.
- Knowledge of safety, sanitation, and food handling procedures.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and provide accurate information to management and colleagues in a timely manner.
- Maintain composure in unusual situations.
- Capability to perform essential job functions effectively.
Physical Demands and Working Environment:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds and regular lifting of 30 pounds.
- Frequent hand movements including grasping and holding objects.
- Ability to reach for items at various heights.
- Occasional kneeling, bending, and climbing as necessary.
- Ability to work in varying environmental conditions including cold, heat, and moisture.
- Capable of thriving in a fast-paced work environment.
Additional Requirements:
- Completion of Sexual Harassment Training.
- Understanding of Department of Health regulations related to Food Service.
