About the Role

Tacoma Community College is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Classroom Assistant to join our Early Learning Program team. As a key member of our team, you will provide essential support to our teaching staff, promoting best practices and ensuring the health, safety, and educational needs of children aged infant to 5 years are met.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement developmentally appropriate practices to address the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development of children.
  • Work collaboratively with Lead Teachers to plan and implement curriculum for toddlers and preschoolers.
  • Encourage language development and foster independence and self-help skills in children.
  • Observe and discuss each child's development with Lead Teachers.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and Program Manager regarding child development and center policies.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months of experience in an early childhood program or equivalent education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of experience in an early childhood setting.
  • 20 credits of early childhood education or a combination of both.
  • Experience in an Early Head Start Program.
  • Infant/Toddler certificate.
Conditions of Employment
  • Successfully complete a portable background check prior to employment.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Valid Food Handlers Permit.
  • Record of current Tuberculin (TB) Test.
  • Ability to bend, reach for items high or low, sit on the floor or low chairs, lift children weighing up to 35 to 45 pounds.
