Job Summary

AXA XL is seeking an experienced Underwriting Manager to lead our Central Region underwriting operations. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of underwriting, including portfolio profitability, account pricing, and marketing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with the Head of Commercial E&O, Americas to evaluate the current book of business and set a short- and long-term course of action.
  • Coordinate underwriting objectives, authority levels, and product enhancements relative to AXA XL's overall underwriting strategy.
  • Drive underwriting excellence through audits, loss/activity/analysis, and regular communication of governance/compliance issues to all offices.
  • Establish guidelines and referral rules for account structure, coverages, pricing, and limits utilization.
  • Manage and approve policy endorsement requests to process any necessary changes to the policy.
  • Ensure the achievement of continued profitability, growth, and operational efficiencies through managing the mix of business, underwriting profitability, and expenses.
  • Lead, develop, and proactively manage a team of underwriters.
  • Oversight on submissions, including applications, policy wording, inspection reports, loss runs, and financial reports.
  • Impart your thorough working knowledge of underwriting principles, procedures, and controls to team members.
  • Effective relationship management with clients and broker partners, initiating opportunities for cross-selling offered products and ensuring account retention.
  • Maintain visibility in the market by aggressively marketing to insureds and brokers.
  • Control timely implementation of new and renewed accounts according to quality standards.
  • Ensure client satisfaction as it relates to fulfillment of their insurance requirements.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) required; professional designations preferred.
  • Extensive years of underwriting experience, policy development, broker management in the respective line(s) of business.
  • Some years of hands-on team leadership/management/supervision demonstrating increasing responsibilities and knowledge of team motivation principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of functionality of systems, including robust technical skills with Microsoft Office and other relevant systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills combined with an outstanding work ethic.
  • Ability to respond to a changing environment with flexibility and innovation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, communication, including active listening skills, networking, marketing, and collaboration skills, evidencing public speaking and presentation experience.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with customers, producers, and brokers.
  • Effective time management skills: ability to multitask.
