Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Culinary Specialist to join our team at Charter Senior Living of Kenosha. As a key member of our dining services team, you will be responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, delicious, and well-balanced meals for our residents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Meal Preparation: Prepare and cook meals according to established menus, recipes, and dietary guidelines, ensuring that meals are presented attractively and meet quality standards.
  • Menu Planning: Assist in planning weekly menus that cater to residents' dietary needs, preferences, and any special dietary restrictions or medical conditions.
  • Food Safety: Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures, including proper food handling, storage, and cleanliness protocols, to maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment.
  • Resident Interaction: Engage with residents in a friendly and respectful manner, addressing any meal preferences or dietary concerns they may have and making accommodations as needed.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor food inventory levels, manage ordering of supplies, and ensure that all ingredients are fresh and used within their shelf life.
  • Kitchen Maintenance: Maintain kitchen equipment and appliances in good working condition, reporting any maintenance issues to the Food Services Manager.
  • Team Collaboration: Work effectively with other kitchen staff, including kitchen aides and dietary aides, to ensure smooth meal service operations, participating in team meetings and contributing to a positive work environment.
  • Documentation: Complete and maintain required documentation, such as food temperature logs and cleaning schedules, to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; culinary certification or relevant vocational training is a plus.
  • Experience: Previous experience as a cook, preferably in a healthcare or assisted living setting, is desirable.
  • Skills: Strong culinary skills with a focus on food preparation and presentation, knowledge of food safety practices and dietary requirements for elderly residents.
  • Personal Attributes: Compassionate and patient demeanor, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively as part of a team and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods, lift and carry heavy items, and work in a kitchen environment with exposure to heat and sharp utensils.
