Job Summary

The Neuroimaging Engineer will play a pivotal role in the Neuroimaging Laboratories (NIL) PET Methods Core, contributing to the development and management of advanced PET processing methods and tools. This individual will develop PET analytic tools, implement solutions, and analyze data in the Brier and collaborating labs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and optimization of PET data analysis software within the NIL PET Methods Core, emphasizing Python-based solutions and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with research teams to understand project requirements and translate them into efficient and scalable software solutions.
  • Evaluate existing PET processing methods and algorithms, adapting them as necessary to meet the needs of ongoing research projects.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of new PET processing methods, leveraging mathematics and physics principles to address scientific challenges.
  • Ensure the maintainability, scalability, and reliability of PET data analysis software by adhering to industry best practices, including version control (e.g., Git) and software documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior developers, guiding them in software development principles and methodologies.
  • Coordinate the development process, including task assignment, code reviews, and quality assurance testing, to ensure timely delivery of high-quality software products.
  • Collaborate with external partners and stakeholders to integrate PET data analysis tools into larger research pipelines and platforms.
  • Stay informed about the latest advancements in PET imaging, neuroimaging research, and software engineering practices, incorporating relevant technologies and techniques into the PET Methods Core.
  • Contribute to the dissemination of research findings through presentations, publications, and technical documentation.
Requirements
  • Familiarity with standard computer programming languages (MATLAB, Python, C/C++, csh, bash), statistical packages (SPSS, SAS, R), psychological testing tools (Eprime, psychtoolbox) and neuroimaging software packages (FSL, SPM, FreeSurfer, AFNI and 3D Slicer).
  • Willingness and ability to make programs useful for researchers with varying levels of computer skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with individuals from a wide range of research labs in Neurology, Psychology, Psychiatry, Radiology, and Neuroscience.
  • Ability to design new hardware and modify existing hardware for the presentation of auditory and visual stimuli and the recording of vocal and motor responses.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline.
