Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Design System Staff Engineer to join our team in Farmington Hills, MI. As a key member of our design system team, you will be responsible for designing, defining, and implementing system requirements for complex customer systems/products and/or preparing studies and researching existing systems prior to the transition to manufacturing for new product introduction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define system specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility.
  • Coordinate design of subsystems and integration of total system.
  • Identify, explore, and resolve program deficiencies.
  • Provide complex software development and consultation to prospective users.
  • Track customer/project issues and drive resolution.
  • Develop and maintain project schedule.
  • Prepare and maintain Engineering NRE estimates.
  • Interface with and guide customer product development calls and meetings.
  • Acknowledge customer inquiries concerning complex system software and applications.
  • Accountable for systems level development and testing requirements involving finalizing approved Vendor Lists and design of components which are unavailable.
  • Provide complex technical assistance for sales presentations, product demonstrations, installation, and maintenance of company products to ensure that the system is functioning according to specifications.
  • Provide technical direction, as required, for the implementation of industry regulations and best practices as they apply to product/systems.
  • Develop product specifications where applicable.
  • Develop and/or approve test plans and test reports.
  • Define pre-production system build logistics and deployment schedules.
  • Develop engineering release documentation.
  • Build mini applications, as required, based on customer requirements to demonstrate feasibility of an application, often requiring rapid prototyping.
  • Ensure ISO process conformance.
Requirements
  • Typically requires bachelor's degree in engineering or related field or equivalent experience and training.
  • Typically requires 6 years of industry experience (Automotive)
  • Demonstrates expert knowledge of the function and a thorough understanding of Flex and related business.
  • Impacts the near-term (quarterly/semi-annual) operational success of the function.
  • Creates functional processes or technologies.
  • Executes and provides input to functional strategic plans and objectives at the site.
  • Demonstrates experience in leading major initiatives and provides input to those initiatives.
  • Exercises independent judgment using ambiguously defined procedures and policies; may propose/provide input to defining methods, standards, policies, and procedures.
