About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Assistant to join our team at Southland Health & Rehab. As a key member of our facilities team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our centers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including changing air conditioner/heater filters, performing routine maintenance of air conditioners/heaters, and using pressure washers as requested.
  • Use electrical tools and equipment, including volt meters, drills, saws, etc., when appropriate.
  • Check oxygen levels of concentrators as requested or needed and perform routine maintenance of oxygen concentrators as scheduled/needed.
  • Perform water temperature tests as requested/scheduled and routine laundry equipment maintenance as scheduled/needed.
  • Test fire alarm systems and fire safety equipment as scheduled/needed and perform generator testing and routine maintenance as scheduled/needed.
  • Perform unscheduled maintenance tasks as requested and assist with major cleaning projects as needed.
  • Build various structures for patient use, such as benches, flower boxes, and other carpentry work requiring the use of various materials.
  • Complete general maintenance, plumbing repair, replacing and unclogging hair traps, unplugging toilets, repairing washers and dryers, replacing broken pipes/water lines, etc.
  • Maintain and replace electrical outlets and light bulbs, and rewire or replace wiring in various equipment used by the center.
  • Install and check batteries of smoke alarms and assist in fire drills.
  • Remove furniture and clothing from rooms no longer occupied or assist in moving patient belongings to another room.
  • Paint interior or exterior of the center as requested/needed and may include wallpapering.
  • Assist in the construction of any additions onto the center and maintain the grounds of the center to provide a clean and safe environment.
Requirements
  • A minimum of a H.S. diploma or its equivalent is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before groups of customers or associates.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram format.
