Job Summary

This position serves as an Anesthesiologist at the Erie VA Medical Center in Erie, PA, providing anesthesia care for patients with all anesthesia classifications. The ideal candidate will have active practice in all forms of anesthesiology and be proficient in written and spoken English.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and administer anesthesia care for patients with all anesthesia classifications.
  • Provision of pain relief and maintenance or restoration of a stable condition during and immediately following a surgical procedure or an obstetric or diagnostic procedure.
  • Assess risk of the patient undergoing surgery and optimize the condition of the patient prior to, during, and after surgery.
  • Assessment of, consultation for, and preparation of patients for anesthesia, including performance of history and physical examination.
  • Medical management of patients during the peri-operative period who are under physical and emotional stress.
  • Management of post-anesthetic recovery, including procedural pain.
  • Obtain informed consent in conformance with organization policies and procedures.
  • Supervise and administer general and regional anesthesia.
  • Insertion of temporary pacemaker for life-threatening arrhythmias.
  • Provides direction and clinical oversight related to the medical practice of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA's).
Requirements
  • United States Citizenship.
  • Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Board Certified/Board Eligible in Anesthesiology.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
