Labor and Delivery Night Shift Nurse Leader

This is an exciting opportunity to join the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center team as a Labor and Delivery Night Shift Nurse Leader. As a key member of our nursing staff, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and ensuring the smooth operation of our labor and delivery unit.

We are proud to be a Level IV comprehensive care maternal facility and a Level III Neonatal facility.
Responsibilities
As a Labor and Delivery Night Shift Nurse Leader, your primary responsibilities will include:
• Directly supervising and evaluating the provision of patient care by other personnel assigned to the unit
• Making daily patient rounds and conducting random chart audits to ensure high-quality care
• Utilizing opportunities to teach and mentor other nursing and ancillary personnel
• Managing staff to meet established productivity targets and revising staffing assignments as necessary to meet the specific needs of patients on a shift-by-shift basis
• Coordinating staffing with Central Staffing Office/House Supervisor and making ongoing changes to staffing as determined by fluctuations in census and patient acuity
• Role-modeling proactive problem-solving by collaborating with staff to ensure effective resolution of identified issues
• Demonstrating flexibility and willingness to provide coverage during shifts when staffing crises or shortages occur
• Providing timely, confidential coaching and/or counseling of nursing personnel as appropriate and following up with accurate reports to Unit Manager and Assistant Manager, Care Coordination
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you must possess the following qualifications:
• Current Texas (or BNE Compact State) Registered Nurse license
• Graduate of an approved/accredited nursing program either by a governmental authority, nursing board, or by a licensing authority that has jurisdiction over approval/accreditation of nursing programs (Texas BON 217.1)
• BSN Preferred
• One (1) year of RN experience. Specialty areas may have increased experience requirements as dictated by unit or standard of care
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, courses accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
• NRP certification from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)
• Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
