About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer III to join our team at CannonDesign. As a key member of our multi-disciplinary team, you will work under the direction of a licensed engineer to deliver exceptional design solutions for our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Project Management: Perform and direct design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for HVAC systems independently on assigned projects. Complex projects may be under the supervision of a professional engineer. Assist with Plumbing and Fire Protection Designs as necessary.
  • Project Supervision: May supervise or provide project management direction within the mechanical discipline, including monitoring project progress and project budget.
  • Design Calculations: Calculate heating, cooling loads, layout, design ductwork, and piping using energy modeling software.
  • Design Documentation: Prepare Revit/BIM modeling of construction drawings of HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings as required. Perform Revit/BIM modeling for plumbing and fire protection systems as necessary.
  • Specification Editing: Edit specifications relating to existing or new projects.
  • Research and Problem-Solving: Independently research as needed and respond to emergent issues.
  • Equipment Specification: Specify mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
  • Shop Drawing Review: Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
  • Client and Team Interface: Interface effectively with clients and members of the project team, attend Owner, Architect, Construction Administration (OAC) meetings with an understanding and focus on the project budget.
  • RFI and Change Order Management: Respond to RFI's and review of change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
  • Site Visits and Meetings: Conduct job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress. Attend and participate in construction meetings. Site visits frequently require a physical walk-through of the site.
  • Team Coordination and Business Development: Coordinate work activities on specific projects with several persons with various levels of capability; participate in business development and marketing activities.
  • Travel and Professional Development: Travel as required and maintain professional business attire when attending client meetings.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering or Bachelor of Architectural Engineering (Mechanical Systems focus) from an ABET accredited program required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 6 years of related experience required.
  • Professional Certifications: Current PE in the United States preferred. LEED accreditation preferred.
  • Skills and Abilities: Must possess a working knowledge and experience, while still acquiring higher-level knowledge. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to effectively handle multiple projects. Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs (i.e. Revit, Trane Trace or Trane 3D Plus) required.
