OVERVIEW:
The Emergency Management Fellow will support the Director of Emergency Management in various departmental initiatives. This role primarily centers on planning activities, including THRIA, COOP, and other strategic plans.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Planning Initiatives
- Assist in the creation, evaluation, revision, and upkeep of emergency management program plans, policies, and procedures.
- Collaborate with all relevant campus sectors to ensure continuity is a fundamental aspect of business and emergency planning.
- Help assess the effectiveness and efficiency of exercises and responses to incidents or events through After-Action Reports.
- Deliver educational training and awareness initiatives, including New Employee Orientation when the Director is unavailable.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the training and exercise strategy.
- Assist in evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of exercises and responses to incidents or events through After-Action Reports.
- In-depth knowledge of emergency response and management, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies.
- Strong understanding of emergency preparedness principles to provide education, training, and awareness.
- Preferred certification through IAEM or VEMA.
- One to three years of experience in emergency management is preferred but not mandatory.
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is preferred but not required (May 2025 and 2024 graduates accepted, as well as current graduate students). An advanced degree or certificate in Emergency Management, a related field, or relevant training/work experience that equates to an advanced degree is preferred.
- This is a part-time, limited-term, non-exempt position.
- Flexible scheduling based on an average of hours per week, totaling less than 1,000 hours annually.
- Remote work is available 50% of the time.
- Expected to respond to emergency situations and designated special events impacting the University.
$20.00 per hour
