Responsibilities:

  • Provide respiratory therapy to patients, following established standards and practices.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
  • Conduct diagnostic tests and analyze results to inform treatment decisions.
  • Operate and maintain diagnostic equipment, including ventilators and oxygen therapy devices.
  • Develop and implement education programs for patients and families on respiratory health and disease management.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and safety.

Requirements:

  • Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy or equivalent experience.
  • Current licensure as a Respiratory Therapy Technician in New York State, with a New York State Respiratory Therapist license preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within two months of employment.
  • Three months of experience as a licensed Respiratory Therapy Technician, with three to five years of experience in an acute care setting preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases.
  • Regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases.
  • Exposed to hazardous anesthetic agents, body fluids, and wastes.
  • Occasionally exposed to radiation hazards.
  • May be exposed to toxic chemicals.
  • Subject to hazards of flammable, explosive gases.
  • Occasional exposure to unpleasant patient or unit elements.

Protective Equipment:

  • Eye Protection.
  • Face Protection.
  • Gown.
  • Lab Coat or Apron.
  • Mask.
  • Non-Sterile Medical Gloves.
