As a Rail Systems Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
  • Coordinating engineering activities related to all rail systems, such as signals, stray current, traction power, Positive Train Control (PTC), and overhead catenary systems.
  • Reviewing as-built documentation and verifying it against actual field conditions.
  • Designing modifications for existing systems and overseeing their implementation in the field.
  • Providing technical expertise in the development and assessment of project design criteria and activities, including design reviews, submittal evaluations, factory acceptance testing, field installations, and capacity enhancements for rail signal, traction power, and overhead catenary systems.
  • Preparing technical documentation, cost assessments, and project timelines as necessary.
  • Collaborating with contracted personnel for systems-related initiatives and working closely with other departments to achieve collaborative solutions.
  • Managing and reporting on Positive Train Control progress as mandated by regulatory authorities, including the oversight of PTC-recorded events that require closure and reporting.
  • Assisting in the preparation and submission of various systems-related reports and analyses as needed.
Minimum QualificationsExperience/Education/Licenses
  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in project design, development, construction, maintenance, testing, and implementation of rail systems and rail signal fields, with a preference for two years of demonstrated competence in managing engineering projects, particularly in railroad or rail transit.
  • At least one year of demonstrated progressive competence in leadership roles.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record, including no more than four moving violations in the past three years and no more than one DUI violation in the last decade.
Knowledge
  • In-depth understanding of train control systems, traction power substations (TPSS), overhead catenary systems (OCS), Positive Train Control (PTC), and other relevant technologies, as well as industry standards and trends.
  • Knowledge of electronic, electrical, and mechanical systems theory applicable to signals, TPSS, OCS, and PTC.
  • Familiarity with electronic, electrical, and mechanical testing, safety protocols, and troubleshooting methods.
  • Proficiency in word processing and data analysis, with a preference for database knowledge.
