HITT Contracting, Inc. is a leading construction company that prioritizes the safety and well-being of its employees and clients. We are seeking an experienced Construction Safety Manager to join our team.

Job Summary

The Construction Safety Manager will be responsible for ensuring the safety performance and development of assigned business units and direct reports. This individual will serve as a safety resource at the project, business unit, and corporate levels, assessing the safety needs of assigned business units or projects and utilizing resources to meet those needs.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage direct report workloads based on project volume, project need, and additional department responsibilities, making staffing recommendations accordingly.
  • Conduct regular check-ins and yearly performance evaluations for all direct reports.
  • Assess training and learning needs for direct reports and train and support Safety Department members as needed.
  • Review career path goals with team members, providing feedback on career development.
  • Participate in the retention and recruiting of HITT Safety Department team members.
  • Manage outside consultant project needs and performance.
  • Determine and fulfill the safety needs of multiple projects and/or business units.
  • Evaluate the inspection performance of other department members and project team members.
  • Conduct on-site safety inspections using Predictive Solutions System independently.
  • Evaluate hazard and incident data to identify trends and create focus on specific project and corporate safety needs.
  • Set safety inspection criteria and expectations and measure/evaluate performance.
  • Mentor Operations/Site Operations in safety inspection process.
  • Evaluate project compliance with federal, state, local, corporate, and client safety regulations and procedures.
  • Identify and address safety needs and challenges associated with future project work.
  • Evaluate and address safety performance of subcontractors working on HITT projects.
  • Review project safety inspections with Site Operations.
  • Analyze and interpret inspection and incident data to identify business unit safety trends and make recommendations to address them.
  • Distribute project safety inspections to key Project Team members and subcontractors.
  • Distribute open issue summary and evaluation for projects and business units.
  • Research/evaluate OSHA current and future regulations to address project needs.
  • Lead OSHA or third-party safety inspections independently.
  • Lead crisis or accident/incident response and investigation independently.
  • Develop, select, and deliver safety toolbox meetings and/or project safety orientations effectively.
  • Evaluate and coach others on toolbox and orientation delivery.
  • Enforce safety requirements with HITT and subcontractor workforce and supervision.
  • Evaluate project safety policies for effectiveness and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Deliver "Just In Time" on-site safety training.
  • Review and develop common and complex task Job Hazard Analysis independently.
  • Assist with safety planning as part of preconstruction process.
  • Lead select subcontractor safety preconstruction meetings.
  • Identify and address special needs for Site-Specific Safety Plans.
  • Participate in project safety and subcontractor meetings as needed.
  • Develop project safety orientations that address special client or condition requirements.
  • Elevate safety concerns appropriately as needed.
  • Audit usage of project safety signage and provide recommendations.
  • Provide audit and review of project documentation requirements and enact improvements as needed.
  • Problem Solve: Research to obtain information to resolve safety-related issues independently.
  • Select special safety/protective equipment for projects independently.
  • Collaborate with project team to execute project-wide safety stand-downs.
  • Identify and arrange for specific safety training to meet project or business unit needs.
  • Be a technical resource to all members of the safety department and site operations.
  • Evaluate inspection process performance and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and lead execution of department corporate-level goals.
  • Develop business unit safety goals.
  • Conduct and develop in-house safety training.
  • Identify corporate safety/protective equipment needs.
  • Research and trial of new safety-related products.
  • Responsible for monthly safety summary of assigned business units.
  • Act as prime point of contact for processes, such as Predictive Solutions or Toolbox Talks, within the safety department.
  • Participate in HITT Corporate initiatives and/or committees outside of safety.
  • Create and maintain positive working relationships with HITT Project Teams and subcontractors.
  • Respond to safety concerns from clients, tenants, or impacted members of the public.
  • Assist/collaborate with other portions of the corporate Risk Management Team as needed.
  • Participate in safety and/or construction professional organization meetings.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in safety or related field preferred.
  • CHST, CSP, or equivalent professional safety designation.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • OSHA 30 Hour for construction; OSHA 500 preferred.
  • Degree and five years of experience or eight or more years of construction safety experience. Other professional experience/skills may act as a substitute.
  • Show comprehensive understanding of high-hazard technical areas (cranes, fall protection, scaffold, excavation, electrical).
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to assess and prioritize multiple business unit needs, tasks, projects, and demands.
  • Able to handle confidential information.
  • Adapts to flexible and changing schedules.
  • Strong analytical and research skills to define and solve problems.
  • Works well independently.
  • Willingness to respond to emergency or crisis conditions.
  • Able to work under various environmental or site conditions.
  • Able to navigate stairs, ladders, and uneven floors or ground conditions.
  • Sets an example for safe work practices on and off of work sites.
Benefits and Compensation

We offer a competitive salary range of $85,000 - $115,000 per year, depending on experience, plus benefits including health, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) matching, and paid time off. Salary may vary based on location and qualifications.
