Job Summary

Rivers Edge Hospital is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our Surgical Services team in Same Day Surgery and PACU. As a key member of our team, you will provide high-quality patient care and work collaboratively with other departments to ensure seamless patient transitions.

Responsibilities
  1. Patient Care
    1. Assess patient physiological and psychological status before, during, and after surgery, recognizing abnormalities and documenting in a thorough and timely manner.
    2. Anticipate, interpret, and act on patient data to prevent problems and complications.
    3. Identify priorities and implement care based on sound nursing judgment, individual patient needs, and facility procedures and standards.
    4. Function as a patient advocate, protecting the patient from harm during the perioperative period.
    5. Recommend changes to policy and procedure to ensure quality care.
    6. Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients, completing necessary forms and referrals, and ensuring educational needs are met.
    7. Anticipate and coordinate admission, transfer, and discharge needs to ensure timely and smooth patient transitions.
  2. Skills
    1. Demonstrate knowledge of aseptic techniques, familiarity with surgical instrumentation and equipment, and principles of microbiology to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.
    2. Perform nursing skills according to REHC policies and procedures, using proper body mechanics and universal precautions.
    3. Keep current in nursing knowledge and attend educational offerings to enhance skills.
    4. Work independently with accuracy, control, and efficiency, performing the work of the department.
    5. Assist with preparing, processing, and providing functioning supplies, equipment, and instruments to ensure their economic and efficient function.
    6. Anticipate and provide supplies consistently in a timely fashion, keeping assigned departments and areas supplied and neatly organized.
    7. Assist with the research and evaluation of new equipment and supplies.
    8. Contribute to quality and safety efforts by providing honest and valuable input.
  3. Collaboration
    1. Work cooperatively with other departments and personnel to provide patient care continuity.
    2. Seek opportunities to help out other staff, contributing to teamwork and spirit.
    3. Assist with patient scheduling.
    4. Promote a working atmosphere conducive to learning.
    5. Participate willingly in the orientation of staff and evaluating their readiness for independent functioning.
  4. Work Habits

    2. Strive to receive no negative customer complaints.
    3. Treat patients and others with courtesy and respect.
    4. Keep current and comply with Department of Health/Health and Human Services and Rules and Regulations, Fire Safety, OSHA, and other regulations.
    5. Participate in continuing education programs and staff meetings directed toward personal and professional growth and development.
    6. Contribute to the knowledge of staff by giving in-services and reporting on new developments in areas of job responsibility.
    7. Do not abuse sick time and work break policies, coming to work prepared to meet daily needs.
    8. Demonstrate flexibility on a daily basis to meet the demands of the changing environment.
    9. Follow the Policy and Procedure manual found on the "G" drive.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a current Minnesota license. Certified in AHA Basic Life Support (BLS), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 6 months of hire.
  • Knowledge and experience in perioperative nursing preferred. General knowledge in hospital nursing and the ability to use the nursing process.
  • Ability to interact in a positive and cooperative manner with courtesy and respect towards co-workers, patients, physicians, and other customers.
