We are in search of a Lead RF Systems Architect to assist in the modeling, assessment, and design of state-of-the-art RF seekers and various sensors, including: RF transmitters, receivers, and apertures; propagation phenomena; radar cross-section analysis; synthetic RF environments; range-Doppler imaging; as well as RF signal processing and detection methodologies. The systems designed and assessed at APL play a crucial role in sustaining the technological superiority of the U.S. Department of Defense against potential threats. You will become part of a dedicated, knowledgeable team of engineers committed to creating innovative RF solutions for deployment in complex future operational scenarios. Your contributions will be vital within a collaborative team atmosphere that values inclusivity and diverse perspectives.


As a Lead RF Systems Architect...



• Your primary duty will be to model and evaluate RF seekers and systems for advanced weaponry, including air-breathing and boost-glide hypersonic technologies.

• You will work alongside a diverse group of highly skilled engineers and scientists, serving as an inspiring leader to innovate and enhance system performance, while providing insights that elevate our team's capabilities and expertise in our advisory role to government entities.

• You will leverage your RF domain knowledge for the modeling, simulation, design, and analysis of RF systems across various domains based on your interests and the needs of APL's programs.

• You will utilize existing or develop new analytical tools and software to predict and assess the performance of seeker designs.

• You will explore, investigate, and experiment with emerging seeker technologies to discover innovative solutions to challenging RF systems and seeker requirements.

• You will play a key role in assisting leadership with defining and executing a growth and training strategy for the RF systems and seeker division to effectively meet the engineering demands of our initiatives. Your vision and leadership will be instrumental to our team's future success.


Qualifications

You meet our essential qualifications for this role if you...



• Hold a BS degree in electrical engineering, physics, or a related discipline.

• Have over 15 years of cumulative experience in RF systems engineering.

• Possess a strong understanding of radar physics, including: RF apertures, radar waveforms, electromagnetic wave propagation, radar signal processing, RCS modeling, automatic target recognition, target tracking, and missile decision logic theory.

• Have experience in modeling RF hardware systems within operational contexts.

• Demonstrate excellent proficiency in MatLab.

• Have experience in developing integrated missile avionics designs, including RF seekers, trackers, and guidance, navigation, and control systems.

• Hold an active Secret security clearance and are eligible to obtain a TS/SCI level clearance. If selected, you will undergo a government security clearance investigation and must meet the criteria for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.


You will exceed our minimum qualifications if you...



• Possess an MS or PhD in a relevant technical field.

• Have experience in writing and implementing RF seeker algorithms within six degrees of freedom missile simulations.

• Have experience in RF hardware design and antenna/radiator modeling.

• Have experience in RF testing and measurement.

• Have familiarity with RF design (ADS, HFSS, Microwave Office, etc.) and layout tools.

• Have experience with additional modeling and simulation tools (Ansys STK, AFSIM).

• Have additional programming skills (Python, C++, other languages).

• Hold a final Top Secret Security clearance.
