Position Overview:

  • Under general supervision, the Respiratory Care Practitioner will execute all duties related to respiratory care.
  • The practitioner is responsible for the setup and administration of both routine and advanced respiratory therapy procedures for patients across all age groups within the healthcare facility.
  • Accountable for the application and management of acute care ventilators utilized for both short-term and long-term mechanical ventilation across various patient demographics.
  • Therapists are expected to demonstrate self-direction in the absence of the primary Team Leader.
  • Maintain comprehensive records for the department and healthcare facility, ensuring accurate data entry into the hospital's information system.
Reporting Structure:
  • Reports to the Onsite Supervisor or Manager of the contracted medical facility.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Nursing at the healthcare staffing agency.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Review patient charts to confirm physician orders and the appropriateness of prescribed procedures, ensuring timely and accurate execution of tasks as outlined in the facility's policy and procedure manual.
  • Administer various forms of Oxygen Therapy, including tanks, tents, masks, and high-flow systems, along with providing instruction on coughing and deep breathing techniques.
  • Conduct comprehensive pulmonary function testing and nutritional assessments as needed.
  • Perform critical care interventions, including airway maintenance and arterial punctures for blood gas analysis, adhering to established protocols.
  • Monitor patient responses to therapy, documenting observations and reporting any adverse reactions immediately.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary care planning by attending care conferences and maintaining updated care plans.
  • Respond to emergency situations, providing CPR and ACLS as certified, following hospital protocols.
  • Facilitate oxygen rounds to ensure the safe and effective use of supplies and equipment.
  • Educate patients, families, and staff on respiratory care procedures and equipment, ensuring proper documentation.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization within the department, ensuring all equipment is sterilized and operational.
  • Provide thorough handovers to incoming personnel and receive comprehensive reports from outgoing staff.
  • Act as Team Lead in the absence of the regular Team Lead, fulfilling all associated responsibilities.
  • Engage in self-development and continuing education activities to enhance performance and delivery of care.
  • Assist in orienting new personnel to the department and various care settings.
  • Deliver developmentally appropriate care to patients of all ages, considering their unique physical and psychosocial needs.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives by participating in committees and sharing insights for enhancing care delivery.
  • Ensure proficiency in the operation and maintenance of blood gas analysis equipment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management or the Team Leader.
  • Exhibit strong customer relations skills at all times.
  • Maintain an orderly and professional work environment.
  • Respond promptly to all departmental communications.
  • Stay informed about advancements in respiratory therapy practices and equipment.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies and maintain a reliable attendance record.
  • Foster effective communication with patients, nursing staff, physicians, and colleagues.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Possession of a current license or written authorization to practice.
  • Active registration with the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and NRP.
  • PALS and CPFT certifications are encouraged.
  • Preferred membership in professional organizations such as AARC or CSRC.
  • A minimum of two years of prior hospital experience is required.
  • Experience in Emergency Room, Critical Care, Pediatric, and Neonatal settings is preferred.
